Dr. Mercer teaches three courses: Advanced Placement United States History (APUSH), Advanced Placement Government and Politics (AP GOPO), and College Credit Plus United States History (CCP).
Advanced Placement United States History prepares students for the College Board's AP Exam. It is a year long course that covers United States History from pre-contact to the present. The APUSH curriculum as created by the College Board is well respected in the country and most Universities will offer credit for students that achieve a passing score on the AP exam. AP Exams are administered in early May.
Advanced Placement Government and Politics prepares students for the College Board's AP Exam. It is a year long course that covers the foundations of Government, Elections, and citizen involvement. The AP GOPO curriculum as created by the College Board is Well respected in the country and most universities will offer credit for students that achieve a passing score on the AP Exam. AP Exams are administered in early May.
College Credit + US History is taught in conjunction with Lorain County Community College. First semester will cover US History to 1877, and is the HIST161 course from the LCCC catalog. Second semester will cover 1877 to the present and is the HIST162 course from the LCCC catalog. Students must qualify for enrollment in this class. CCP students receive TWO credits of Social Studies, as well as SIX college credits from the community college. This credit is guaranteed to transfer to Ohio state universities.
Extra Curricular: Mr. Mercer is the advisor of the Olmsted Falls Film Society (the school's film club). Film Club meets periodically in the month to view and discuss classic and modern movies.
