About Me

Dr. Mercer began his teaching career in 1989, all of which has been spent at Olmsted Falls High School. In those years he has taught nearly a dozen different courses. Currently he teaches AP US History, AP Government and Politics, and College Credit Plus US History.

Prior to his teaching career, Dr. Mercer worked on Capitol Hill in Washington, DC where he worked for different congressional and senatorial offices. After that he he returned to his native Cleveland, where he opened an office for a subsidiary of British Telecom. After nearly a decade in the business and government worlds he decided to pursue his dream of teaching.

In addition to teaching social studies courses, Dr. Mercer is the adviser for the Olmsted Falls Film Society, the school's film club. This club views and discusses various movies and themes monthly. If you are interested in becoming involved, see him at any time.

Dr. Mercer's earned a BA in History from Bethany College in 1981. He earned his MA in History from Kent State University in 2001, and his PhD in History (also from Kent State) in 2016.

In his spare time, Dr. Mercer loves spending time with his family. He has been married to Ruth since 1985, and has two children - Jake and Sam. He loves to travel, hike, see shows, and generally enjoy life.
