The Distinguished World Language Scholar award is given by the Nebraska Department of Education World Languages department in recognition of leadership in language learning, commitment to language study, appreciation for cultural diversity, and communicative competence. Teachers can only nominate one student per level (Spanish 1 and 2 are one level and Spanish 3 and 4 are another level). Once nominated, students submit a portfolio of themselves writing and speaking in the target language.
Interested in being nominated? Here's what I'm looking for besides demonstrating excellence in Spanish class: Are you using Spanish outside of class and/or planning to continue studying Spanish in college? Are you involved in Spanish Club? Did you participate in the summer Spanish challenge? If you meet most of these criteria, I will ask you if you want to be nominated and if there is more than one person per level who wants to be nominated, I will choose the person who best meets these criteria. (Note that for some years no candidates wanted to be nominated, or were nominated and forgot to submit their portfolios.)
Sam Genoways (Spanish 3/4): Honors
Emma Bowery (Spanish 1/2): High honors
