We believe that you “raise what you praise." As teachers, we do our best to notice all the things students do correctly and reward those behaviors with positive comments, Hearts and Wings, stickers, treasure box visits, or non-tangible rewards. We use a layered reward system in which students have the opportunity to be rewarded individually, in groups, and as a whole class. We value each student as an individual and work to know each student’s varying needs for structure and guidance.
Each day, students make a commitment to have a great day. At the end of the day, if your child followed the Comstock expectations, you will see a smiley face in your child's take-home folder.
If a student has trouble following the rules or expectations, the teacher will provide an opportunity to reflect on his/her actions. If the student is unable to make better choices, he/she will put their daily folder on the teacher’s table as a visual reminder to change their behavior. If the issue is fixed, the folder is returned to the student. If the student continues to struggle, the teacher will send a note home to the parents. Students may attend a “practice academy” during a break in the school day or during a reward time such as Fun Friday. During this time, the student would practice making a better choice. A teacher or administrator will reach out if the behavior continues. Also, an office visit or phone call could happen prior to the note depending on the severity of the situation.
