Job Summary
The Computer Solutions Teacher provides engaging, hands-on instruction that equips students with foundational technology skills, digital literacy, and workplace readiness competencies. Through project-based learning and real-world problem-solving activities, the teacher prepares students to effectively use technology as a tool for communication, collaboration, organization, and innovation while promoting responsible digital citizenship and career exploration.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Professional Performance: comply with school and school board policies and regulations; practice and promote positive interaction with and among administration, faculty and staff; relate positively to parents and other community representatives; demonstrate professional growth; help promote a positive school climate/environment; prompt and accurate with required records and reports; demonstrate command of standard English, both spoken and written; accept responsibilities outside the classroom as they relate to the school; use instructional and planning time effectively; assume responsibility for care of materials, equipment and facilities; assume responsibility for a neat, safe environment for students committed to the teacher's care; and maintain an atmosphere of mutual respect and courtesy with students.
Interpersonal Relations: practice and promote positive interaction with and among students; demonstrate enthusiasm for learning; demonstrate interest in students; encourage self-direction and self-motivation in students
Subject Matter: demonstrate knowledge of the subject being taught; demonstrate ability to adjust presentation of subject content to students' needs and interests; and academic strengths and weaknesses
Planning/Materials: Maintain an organized program of instruction based on effective short and long range plans; exhibit evidence of effective lessons plans; and utilize a variety of appropriate materials and resources
Techniques/Delivery: communicate lesson objectives and its importance to students; utilize appropriate and varied teaching techniques and learning activities; use out-of-class assignments, when appropriate to support instructional objectives; and maintain an effective system of monitoring student progress and to inform appropriate persons
Classroom management: maintain discipline appropriate to learning situation; keep students on task; and use positive reinforcement and constructive criticism to maintain good student discipline
Instruction and Curriculum
• Plan and deliver standards-based instruction aligned with the Virginia Computer Solutions curriculum and Career and Technical Education (CTE) standards.
• Teach students to use technology as a problem-solving and productivity tool.
• Develop lessons that incorporate critical thinking, creativity, collaboration, communication, and innovation.
• Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse learning needs of students.
• Utilize project-based learning experiences that allow students to apply technology skills in authentic situations.
• Assess student progress and provide timely feedback to support student growth and achievement.
• Maintain accurate records of student performance and competency attainment.
Technology Applications
• Teach foundational keyboarding skills and digital productivity tools.
• Provide instruction in word processing, spreadsheets, databases, presentations, and emerging technologies.
• Guide students in the use of technology for research, communication, collaboration, and problem-solving.
• Introduce students to basic coding and computational thinking concepts.
• Teach students how technology systems, devices, and digital infrastructures function.
• Support students in creating multimedia products and presentations that demonstrate learning.
Digital Citizenship and Information Security
• Teach responsible and ethical technology use.
• Instruct students in Internet safety, cybersecurity awareness, data privacy, copyright, licensing, and digital etiquette.
• Promote responsible decision-making regarding online communication and social media use.
• Teach students strategies for identifying credible sources and evaluating digital information.
Workplace Readiness and Career Development
• Integrate Virginia Workplace Readiness Skills throughout instruction.
• Teach professionalism, teamwork, communication, leadership, time management, and problem-solving skills.
• Help students explore careers related to information technology, business, computer science, and related fields.
• Facilitate opportunities for students to connect classroom learning with real-world applications.
• Support high-quality work-based learning experiences when appropriate.
Career and Technical Student Organization (CTSO)
• Promote student participation in Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) activities and competitions.
• Assist students in developing leadership, communication, and career skills through CTSO participation.
• Sponsor or support FBLA chapter activities as assigned.
Minimum Requirements
Hold a valid Virginia teaching license
Endorsement in Business and Information Technology, Career and Technical Education (CTE), Computer Science, or related field preferred.
Demonstrates knowledge of instructional technology, digital applications, and middle school learners.
Ability to integrate workplace readiness skills and career exploration into instruction
Ability to establish positive relationships with students, families, staff, and community partners.
Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal skills.

Terms of Employment
This position is a 10 month (200 day) position. Salary to be established by the school board.
Evaluation
Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with School Board’s policy and administrative regulations on evaluation of classified personnel.
