Principal's Message

Dear Friends and Visitors,

Welcome to Adlai E. Stevenson Elementary School located in Fairfield Township, a suburban neighborhood in Essex County, New Jersey.  Our enrollment consists of approximately 320 students in preschool through Grade 2. Students benefit from small class size, an outstanding faculty, extensive technology infusion and a commitment to educational excellence.

We have a strong focus on academics and deeply believe in the need to teach the 'whole' child. To meet the needs of our divergent learners, instruction is student-centered with a concentration on higher order thinking. As a result, students can develop the skills, attitudes, knowledge and character needed to reach their individual potential and build a foundation for lifelong learning.

One of the most important components of an effective school is the partnership formed between educators and parents working together for the best interest of children. Stevenson is proud of its rich tradition of highly supportive parents. Through teamwork, open communication and a dedication to continuous improvement, we strive to make this school a place that fosters a love of learning. 

The administration and faculty actively collaborate with the Fairfield community, including a key relationship with the Home School Association (HSA). The HSA sponsors field trips, in-school author residencies and special assemblies promoting character education and the arts. In addition, the HSA has contributed to the school’s growing array of technology.  The administration and faculty also have a strong relationship with the Fairfield Police Department. Law enforcement personnel work closely with the school’s administration in coordinating safety/security procedures and programs related to good health and citizenship.

In order to give each child the best opportunity for success, we ask that we keep children at the forefront in all that we do. If we accept and honor the pledge to keep children first, then it follows that their education and success is our number one priority.
