Easter Break Projects and Practice

Stained Glass Windows

When we go to church, we often see stained glass windows. These colourful windows enhance the beauty of the church and can even tell a story. Sometimes instead of just using colours, pictures are also included into the window. This helps to create a story as we look from one window to the next.

Easter is a significant holiday in the Catholic religion. I thought it would be nice to create your very own stained glass window in your home!

Watch my video here to get started!

Materials: painters tape, scissors, crayola paints, paintbrushes

Alternative to painting your window: If you are unable to paint a window in your home or don’t have the needed supplies, you could create a stained glass picture on a piece of paper with crayons.

You could also include a picture like a cross in the middle.

Ukranian Pysanky Eggs (Social Studies)

Every year around this time Mrs. Tibbo teaches about Ukrainian Pysanky Eggs because you study the country Ukraine in Social Studies. She usually gets all the students to choose someone to give their egg to as a gift during Easter. The traditional Ukrainian symbols that they put on the egg are picked as blessings or wishes for the person they choose to give it to. The traditional Pysanky Eggs are done with beeswax and dye but to simplify she does it with black sharpie marker. In her video she shows her example and the symbols she chose to use.

Click here for the traditional Pysanky symbols and meanings to help you choose what you put on your egg.

Materials: Black sharpie marker, hard boiled egg, markers or food colouring, varnish(optional)

Cootie Catcher Multiplication

This is a really fun way to practice your multiplication tables over the break. You will need a printer to print them off. There are 4 files: 0-1 times tables, 2-3 times tables, 4-5 times tables and 0-9 times tables all with instructions. This might be a nice alternative to flashcards.

Time Capsule

We are in a pretty unique situation worldwide right now. This pandemic is unlike anything we have ever experienced and we may never (hopefully) experience it again in our lifetime. This is history in the making. It might be a nice idea to document who you are right now and what the world around you looks like during a time of isolation. You may look back on this as an adult to remember how you lived during this period of time.

Studying Antarctica (Social Studies)

Take a deeper look at this penguin populated desert! You can watch these videos:

Then, take notes in your journal or a GoogleDoc if you wish. Your title can be "Antarctica Facts". You could also create a big poster to display your information and teach your parents or brothers and sisters!

Once you have all of your information you can go a guided draw video of a penguin to go with your notes:
