Sunday March 8th
Good afternoon Kinder Families,
Last week we welcomed an Educational Student to our classroom. Her name is Miss Odette, and she will be working with us and supporting the students until April. We are excited to have her join our classroom community.
On Monday, you will receive the sign-up for the upcoming parent-teacher interviews through Edsby. Please remember to sign up to meet with me so we can discuss your child’s progress.
Please continue reviewing letter names, letter sounds, and high-frequency words at home. I have noticed that many of the children have made great gains with their letter recognition and sound production. However, there are still a small handful who would benefit from additional practice. Daily review at home will greatly support their reading development and fluency.

Good morning Kinder Families,
I hope everyone enjoyed the beautiful Family Day weekend! It’s one of my favorite weekends of the year, and I especially enjoyed watching the NBA All-Star Weekend.
Please remember to keep all items in your child’s Kanga pouch, including the home reading package. Also, take a few moments to clean out your child’s Kanga pouch, as some students still have items in them from the beginning of the year.
We have nearly completed several booklets that will be sent home over the next few weeks. When these come home, please remove them from your child’s pouch to make room for additional items and to help keep backpacks from becoming too heavy.
Later this week, I will be sending home our Bump and Match Literacy and Numeracy games for you and your child to enjoy together, helping to reinforce and strengthen their learning.
I had hoped to record a demonstration and go over the instructions sooner, but I’ve been waiting for my voice to fully recover. As soon as I complete the video explaining how to play, I will forward it to you.
For the literacy game, there will be a small amount of preparation needed, including assembling the alphabet dice. I will also be sending home a dice for the numeracy game so your child will have everything needed to play.

Good Afternoon Kinder Families,
Just a few housekeeping reminders to help our days run smoothly:
Kanga Pouches
Please ensure your child brings their kanga pouch to school each day. It makes it much easier for us to keep track of belongings when everything is contained in one place. At this point, all students should have a kanga pouch, as we have purchased one for any child who did not previously have one.
Items Stored in Kanga Pouches
All items—including home reading packages, notes, and any money sent to school—should be kept inside your child’s kanga pouch. This week we have found money in backpacks, inside reading packages, and even in lunch bags. With 20+ students per class, searching for misplaced items is very time-consuming and takes away from valuable time our EAs need to spend supporting students.
Snack Reminders
Please be mindful of the snacks you are sending to school and carefully read ingredient labels. We have had to send several snacks home this week. Vachon products such as Jos Louis, Flakie pastries, and ½ Moon items are not peanut-free. When a snack cannot be eaten at school, it can be upsetting for the child and again takes time away from learning and support.

Good Afternoon Kinder families,
This week is Literacy Week. We will be completing literacy activities in class, but you may also choose to do your own activities at home. Below are some examples of activities we have done in previous years, along with some new ideas.
1) Read a story as a family
2) Flashlight reading - build a fort or get under a blanket and read a story together with a flashlight
3) Play a board game as a family
4) Scavenger Hunt for letters
5) Act out a familiar story, for example - The Three bears, Three Little Pigs etc.
6) Cook or Bake together
Please continue to review letters and sounds daily. By revisiting letters and sounds often, learners develop a solid foundation for literacy and are better prepared to read, write, and communicate successfully.

Good Morning Kinder Families,
I apologize for this email being not just a few hours late, but a few days late. I was not feeling well and was knocked off my feet for several days.
This week, we will be starting a new Science unit on Energy, where we will explore the movement of humans, animals, and other objects. This is my favorite unit to teach, and I hope the children enjoy it as much as I do! We will be discussing how and why animals move.
Last week, we began our second Number unit in Math, focusing on the numbers 1–6. I have attached a document with some ideas you can try at home to support your child’s learning.
Thank you for your understanding, and please feel free to reach out with any questions.
Best regards,

Good Afternoon Kinder Families,
I hope you were able to enjoy the recent warmer temperatures!
On Friday, I sent home the sound assessment sheet. I was very happy to see that so many of you have been practicing with your child at home and that the children have shown such great growth in this area. Thank you for your continued support.
It is very important to continue reviewing letters and sounds, even if your child can already identify all 26 uppercase and lowercase letters and their corresponding sounds. We are now beginning to blend letter sounds together to form words.
This week, we will also be introducing 10 high-frequency words. The children will be expected to identify and spell these words. I have attached the list to this email for your reference.
Thank you for your continued partnership in your child’s learning!

Good Afternoon Kinder Families,
Happy New Year! I hope everyone enjoyed a wonderful holiday season. The Christmas break certainly blessed us with a healthy dumping of snow—hopefully you had some help shovelling! For me, the snow pile at the side of the driveway is almost as tall as I am.
It is hard to believe that we are already beginning a new calendar year. I feel truly blessed to have had the opportunity to work with your child over the past few months, and I am very much looking forward to continuing this beautiful adventure together in 2026.
On behalf of Miss Angela, Miss F, and myself from the morning class, and Miss Angela, Miss Chrissy, and myself from the afternoon class, I would like to thank you for the beautiful gifts and warm holiday wishes. We were truly spoiled and very appreciative.
Next week, we will be welcoming an Educational Assistant student from Red Deer Polytechnic to our classroom. Bethany Beauclaire will be joining us on Tuesdays and Thursdays until April to fulfill her practicum requirements.
During her time with us, Bethany will be shadowing Miss Angela and Miss F, supporting classroom routines, and gaining hands-on experience working with our kindergarten students. We are excited to have her join our classroom community.
Attached you will find the January calendar and newsletter, a Show and Tell information sheet and schedule, as well as some ideas of activities you can do at home to help support your child as we continue learning numbers 1–5 and work to solidify this understanding. Please feel free to reach out if you have any questions.
As a quick reminder, please remember to empty your child’s Kanga Pouch regularly. Some have become quite full, which makes them heavier for your child to carry and difficult to fit into their cubby.
Thank you for your continued support. We are excited for all that the new year will bring!
This week in Kindergarten:
Monday, Jan. 5th - Classes resume
Tuesday, Jan. 6th - Epiphany Liturgy/Ribbon Skirt Day
Wednesday, Jan. 7th - Library/Show 'n' Tell begins

Sept. 2025
Good Afternoon Kinder Families,
I hope everyone enjoyed the weekend, you can certainly feel fall in the air.
I cannot stress enough how important it is to send your child with nut-free snacks. We do have a nut allergy in the class. If your child brings wow butter or chocolate spread, please let me know so that we are not guessing. Nutella is not a nut-free product.
It is also important to refrain from wearing scents on your child (colognes, hand cream, hair products etc.). I am severely allergic to some scents and often have bad reactions, I do carry an inhaler and medication but it doesn't always help. Your cooperation in this matter is greatly appreciated.
Tomorrow your child will be coming home with their printing booklet and the Jolly Phonics Sound booklet. Please complete the Ss and Aa pages this week and review these two sounds.
The app pictured below (Letter Sounds A to Z) will produce the correct letter sound if needed:
Below you will find the links for the Birthday Celebration and Play- doh sign ups if you would like to participate.
