Habits early in life lead to lifelong healthy behaviours
Comprehensive School Health is a proven strategy supported internationally – it involves the St. Martha Community
All Elementary Schools in RMWB are now APPLE Schools
We will be working toward offering Healthy foods to our students at all food related Celebrations and we offer a variety of physical activities to our students as well as Monthly campaigns and apples daily to our students.
Follow the ANGCY – Alberta Nutritional Guidelines for Children and Youth – copies can be found at www.healthyalberta.com
What does this mean? When choosing foods to serve at whole class functions try to make healthy choices such as: a bag of mandarins, fruit kabobs, homemade muffins, fruit or vegetable tray, cheese/hummus and whole grain crackers
We involve our students in Daily Physical Activity
For more ideas check out the Healthy U website, APPLE Schools Website and coming soon, the St. Martha APPLE School webpage.
APPLE Schools is a research intervention program which works with schools to create health environments in school communities. We provide dedicated time and training for a school health facilitator in the school who works with the staff, parents, students and community members to make the healthy choice, the easy choice.
