Schedule for 2026-2027
This year in the mornings I am teaching the one semester Chemistry course aligned with the Michigan NGSS curriculum (1 section in each semester) as well as 2 sections of our new full year one-hour AP Chemistry class. In the afternoon I am teaching chemistry in our STEM/AP Capstone program.
My Teaching Background...
I graduated from Michigan State University with a Bachelor of Science - Biology and Chemistry. I completed my intern year (student teaching) through MSU at Forest Hills Central High School teaching Biology and Chemistry. The next year I moved over to Forest Hills Northern High School as a long-term sub in Chemistry and Biology for first semester and I have been at FHN ever since -- Husky Pride!
My first official year as a full-time teacher at Northern was 2004-2005 when I taught Introduction to Science, Environmental Science, and Chemistry in the Community (ChemCom). For the next three years I taught Biology and Chemistry at FHN. I also completed my Master's Degree in Curriculum and Teaching from Michigan State in that time period. I started teaching AP Chemistry and Chemistry 215 in the 2008-2009 school year and taught those through Spring 2020. My fall semester of 2020 was all virtual - I taught 1 section of online Forensic Science, 2 sections of online Chemistry, and 1 section of AP Chemistry... it was quite a semester! I returned to in-person teaching for the Spring 2021 semester, teaching AP Chemistry and Chemistry 215. I then moved to teaching the one semester NGSS aligned Chemistry course along with AP Chemistry until Spring 2026. Begining in the fall of 2026 I am teaching the new 1-hour AP Chemistry class, the one semester NGSS Chemistry course, and I am adding in a full year regular Chemistry course in our STEM/AP Capstone program. This will be my 23rd year of full-time teaching, I'm excited to have you in class!
A Bit About Me...
I am a HUGE Michigan State fan (GO GREEN!) in addition to being alumni of MSU twice over - I loved going to school there! My husband and I still try to make it to football, hockey, and basketball games when we can - and after all these years we still miss our student season tickets!
My all time favorite sport is water polo, I played for East Kentwood High School and for Michigan State. I was also an assistant coach for the Forest Hills Girls' Water Polo team during the 2004 and 2007 seasons. Both my daughters are now polo players as well as swimmers - water polo is a fantastic sport to watch and to play!
Some of my other favorite things to do are spend time with my family, read, go for walks, and watch movies. I am also just a little obsessed with Beat Saber on the PS5 VR system. :) I am married and we have two daughters, Taylor who is in 8th grade this school year and Madison who is a freshman in college this year. We also have a 5 year old teddy bear dog, her name is Tonks!
