Union Music Festival Information 2024

The Union Music Festival is held Saturday, March 2nd.  FMS Choirs are participating as well as soloists performing in the morning.  Here is what to do depending on what events your student is participating in.

First, if your child is participating with the Band, you will need to follow the directions given by the Band as they perform earlier than the choirs do.  After the band performances are finished, choir members will perform and go home on those buses.  Vocal soloists in Band will need to find the vocal performance rooms after or in-between their band performances.

If your child is participating in the solo events in the morning, a school van will leave at 9:00 AM from the FMS parking lot.  The solo schedule is posted below if you would like to watch your child perform.  Solo performance times are between 10:36-12:00.  These are only estimates of the time they will sing, however, so please arrive early so that you don't miss the performance if the room is running early.  Students should be in uniform and ready to go at FMS at 8:50 AM so that the bus can leave at 9:00.  We will not wait for late students.

7th Grade Select Choir, 8th Grade Treble Choir, and 8th Grade Concert Choir students NOT in Solo events OR Band will meet at FMS at 10:30 to leave at 10:45.  We will arrive at Union around 12:00.  Treble Choir students will warm-up at 12:20 and perform at 12:40, 7th Select warms up at 1:00 to perform at 1:20.  Concert Choir will warm up at 1:40 and perform at 2:00.  All students will watch the Concert Choir performance at 2:00, then go straight to the buses to take roll and leave.  We will make a stop on the way home at Wally’s on I-44 to use the restroom and get a celebratory snack.  We should return to FMS around 4:30, students will call when we pass through Arnold.  Please be on time to pick up your student.

Parents can pick up students from Union early if they need to get them for other activities that day.  Chaperones are in charge of signing students out.  Due to safety concerns, chaperones must see a parent with the student before releasing them from the Festival.  Please make sure to see the chaperone in charge of signing students out.  That will be the person who rode up with them on their bus.  Mr. Zustiak cannot check students out while working with choirs.  If you need to pick up your child early, please send an e-mail by Feb 28th so that it can be notated on the attendance lists to speed up the sign-out process.

Don't forget that all students are to be in the FMS Choir uniform consisting of khaki pants, black shoes, black socks, black belt, and FMS Music Polo.  It is the same outfit the Band uses and the same polo we've used for 15 years.  If you have a polo from earlier years it will work just fine.  If you need a polo please send an envelope to school with your child's name and size on the envelope with $18.  Sizes are Small to XXL and are adult sizes.  Please keep in mind that these students are growing, especially 7th grade students who plan to use this polo again next year.  Polos will be handed out soon.

All students are also required to have a field trip form on file prior to the festival.  These can be obtained outside Mr. Zustiak's classroom or on Mr. Zustiak's website.  All permission forms are required to be turned in by Wednesday, February 28th.
