Assembling Chassis, Engine & Transmission

The engine had been totally rebuilt shortly before I bought the car and I have the dated invoices to show the work that was done. I polished and painted the manifolds, rebuilt and polished the SU carbs and installed the solid aluminum valve cover. All hoses etc are new.

I installed this Mallory dual point distributor which may be overkill for a 4 cylinder engine but it is new and the original had some wear and the vacuum advance diaphram did not meet specs. The coil is also new. I installed a spin on oil filter which is a very nice feature on these cars. The fuel pump is also new and has a hand pump which saves a lot of battery and starting motor stress when starting the engine that has not been run for a month or more.

All the front suspension parts that wear (bushings, bearings, tie rod ends that showed any deterioration were replaced.

The steering rack has slight wear in the center where the pinion engages and I was not able to locate a new rack but I did relocate the contact point to reduce the play. The balls and sockets are in good shape and the boots are new.

The original heavy metal fan is replaced with a lighter TR6 plastic version which adds a horsepower or two. I still have most of the original parts if someone wants to keep everything that way.

Rear spring shackle bushings are new as are the axle U bolts. The exhaust system on the car was in great shape and I painted it with the heat resistant paint I used on the manifolds.

All the gears and bearings in the rear axle are fine.

Transmission and overdrive ready to spin the back wheels. Anyone who plans on driving one of these cars will really appreciate the comfort and efficiencies of an overdrive.
