Coaching in Early Childhood

ESU 16 Early Childhood and Effective Services

The ESU 16 Early Childhood Team is committed to using current evidence-based practices in delivering effective, family-centered services. Research has shown that traditional, "medical model" therapies are not the most effective way to help young children learn because they tend to teach isolated skills in artificial environments instead of building on strengths and learning from parents and teachers within natural routines and environments. We use a "coaching" framework, where the primary provider develops strategies with the family (or daycare or preschool teacher) embedded within every day routines to help the child learn and develop. Team meetings help our team support each other and add ideas to help each child succeed.
