Progress Report - Week 2
Overview
Using modeling software to determine the torque needed by Bodie to go from laying to standing
Finalized frame material decision
Accomplishments
Design proposal presentation
Week 2 sections for final report completed and uploaded
Used Working Model 2D to solve for the torque needed by Bodie to pull himself up from a prone position to a standing position
Some design decisions made for prototype
Frame Material : combination of stainless steel (connectors) and aluminum (rods)
Goals for Next Week
Work on final report sections for Week 3 (Team)
Research and order springs (Steven, Clifford)
Order frame components for prototype (Niko, Edward)
Sponsor Comments
Frame materials: Dave gave no preference for material between Steel and carbon fiber
Force needed: 10-15lbs lifting for Bodie to stand, 15-20lbs to run.
Harness info: Dave has both a fitted harness and a sling. Bodie seems to prefer the harness because it doesn't chafe
Restricted movement: the bar over bodie's shoulders is not the only part that may be discouraging movement: to turn the wheelchair he needs to lean into the bars beside him to push
Instructor Comments
Determine how much torque Bodie can provide himself then find a spring that can make up for the remaining need
Look into treating the problem as a four-bar linkage
