Weekly Progress Reports (see sidebar), the Gantt chart, and this Project Management page should be printed out before meetings with the sponsor and instructor.
All team members should be able to explain all items on the progress report.
Place a "*" at the beginning of the title of the active week Progress Report (see * in sidebar).
Project Objectives
Concisely list and prioritize the project objectives and constraints
High Priority Objectives
Autonomy: device design must be intuitive enough for Bodie to rise and lay on his own.
Second Priority Objectives
Encourage Movement: weight of the device must be able to be distributed in a way that does not hinder or discourage Bodie's ability to move around while it is in use.
Other Constraints and Issues
Device should allow Bodie to relieve himself while it is in use.
Device should be easy for the owner to put Bodie in and take him out.
Device should be easy to clean and maintain.
WOW Design Solution
Besides functioning as Bodie's back legs, the device could make cleaning up after him easier and make it easy to give him the physical therapy needed to regain leg function.
Risk Reduction Strategy
List areas of risk and strategy that will be used to eliminate risk really in the design process.
To avoid Bodie over-reacting to the new wheelchair, it will be an entirely passive system, and padded to avoid hurting him in the event of part failure.
The spring in the hip should maintain Bodie's weight and slow his fall if it unlocks accidentally.
From a sitting position, the wheel must be effectively braked to avoid slipping.
Intermediate Milestones
Identifying meaningful intermediate milestones is a critical for effective project management. Together with your sponsor identify such milestones, and specify specific performance requirements you aim to meet at each milestone.
