Sean Coffinger, scoffing@ucsd.edu
Sean Coffinger is a psychology PhD student at the Gentner Lab at UCSD, with a background in neuroscience and research interests that include temporal pattern processing, auditory recognition, animal communication, and bioacoustics. The Gentner Lab, headed by Timothy Gentner, PhD, focuses on the neuroethology of acoustic communication. The lab utilizes European Starlings as a model in their auditory-response operant panels. Sean’s goal is to emulate this tried-and-true system with SPAWAR’s bottlenose dolphins and ultimately uncover the secrets of their extraordinary sound-recognition capabilities.
