Overview of Status of Analysis, Design, Fabrication, Tests, etc.
Initiated process to acquire motors, encoders, sensors, and parts required for device.
Discussed design criteria and narrowed down to 3 design selections during a team meeting on Wednesday (April 5, 2017).
Finalized individual component analysis reports with deadline aim for Friday (April 7, 2017).
Selection of a motor - the most important mechanical component, with intention to receive delivery within Week 2.
Will be meeting with sponsors on Friday at 1 pm (April 7, 2017)
Accomplishments from Previous Week
Narrowed down design and component options. Ultimately lead to selection criteria of various parts in the design - in particular the motor, which will likely be the most expensive.
Goals for Next Week (list names after each item). Use specific and measurable objectives.
Observe brachytherapy procedure on Monday, 12 P.M.
Order and receive motor, sensors, and encoders by the end of Friday (April 14, 2017)
Continue further analysis on various parts of the design and components for Design Proposal Presentations (April 13, 2017)
Sponsor Comments from Last Meeting and Actions Taken to Address these Comments (indicate date of comments and if via email or in person)
Would like addition of a coil in design to improve and facilitate quicker loading action for the measuring device. (Discussed in person, March 24, 2017).
Instructor Comments from Last Meeting and Actions Taken to Address these Comments (indicate date of comments and if via email or in person)
Continue to think about design risks and production feasibility. (Discussed in person, March 16, 2017).
Comments from Other Students in the Class (indicate date of comments and if via email or in person)
None as of the current moment.
Risks and Areas of Concern
Time Risks (e.g. manufacturing of device and receiving shipment of parts on time)
Design Risks (e.g design is prone to high failure rate)
Production Risks (e.g. prototype is impossible to manufacture)
Hardware Failure Risks (e.g. purchased components are incompatible with design or prone to high failure rate)
Project Failure Risks (e.g. design is unable to work or be manufactured within the time-frame limit)
Resources or Information Required but not Available
Manufacturer specifications of the medical devices already in use (e.g. HDR afterloader, Li-Ni wire)
Mechanical properties of selected motor, encoder, and sensor components
Material properties of selected hardware components (e.g. chassis, friction drive belt, rollers and bearings)
