Overview of Status of Analysis, Design, Fabrication, Tests, etc.
3 potential water pumping systems
Belt drive with rotary pump
Status: assembled
Friction drive with rotary pump
Status: assembled and tested
Test results: 3 GPM
Slider crank mechanism with diaphragm pump
Status: being designed
Implement pin attachment system to engage/disengage pump attachment assembly when traveling (bike moving) vs. pumping water (bike stationary)
*Focus preliminary design around single speed bike --> adjust size and gear ratios to be compatible with OX1
Accomplishments from Previous Week
Built friction-drive system and tested on bike
Did not achieve project deliverable of 5 GPM
Manufactured parts for the belt-drive system
Assembled belt-drive system
Determined required torque to stroke diaphragm pump
Goals for Next Week (list names after each item). Use specific and measurable objectives.
Test belt-drive system with rotary pump and make adjustments to improve performance - Dennis, Kyle, Jamie
Finish design, build, and test slider crank mechanism with diaphragm pump- Jessica, Brandon, Derek
Determine optimal water pump design based on test results - Team

Don't need gear ratio increase if implement diaphragm pump design with slider crank
Consider slot wear over time; attach on pedal to eliminate hardware
Ask pump manufacturer how they determined 90 strokes for 10 GPM maximum performance (due to negative pressure difference?)
Dr. T will send powerpoint with bicycle info
Is the cost/simplicity of the final product still feasible?
Action: Set specific limits with sponsor
Can create simulation of frictional loss by testing with mud on bike wheel
Strobe meter to measure RPM
Action: Obtained instrument from Steve for testing purposes
Many comments on draft one of final report
Action: Made edits and necessary additions to report
