Overview of Status of Analysis, Design, Fabrication, Tests, etc.
2 Proposed Pump Solutions for maximizing flowrate at small pumping depth
Rotary Pump with Friction Drive Attachment (we would purchase pump)
Bellow Pump with Belt Drive Attachment (we would manufacture pump)
Gear ratios for OX-1 AND single-speed bike functionality + 8% incline requirement: 1, 1.5, 2
Accomplishments from Previous Week
Clarification with sponsor for direction of project
Defined clear deliverables
Pump research to determine optimal options
Made decision table with sponsor's weighted criteria to select best pump
Discussed pump attachment ideas/designs
Goals for Next Week (list names after each item). Use specific and measurable objectives.
Pick 1-2 best pump options to build and test
Purchase all materials needed to build pump (if choose bellow pump)
Design pump attachment method

Meeting in person - 4/18/17
· Don’t forget to factor in carrying hose…potential solutions?
· Generate energy while pedaling to maximize 30 min travel time to water source: dynamo
o Only engage dynamo sometimes; disengage when hard to pedal
o Sponsor pictures dynamo mounted on front
--> Action: design pump attachment to be compatible with dynamo attachment
· Implement gear train to obtain varying gear ratios to help with carrying payload and climbing hills
--> Action: can purchase off the shelf gear systems if needed
· Most women go to get water and can’t sit down on a bike seat due to childbirth infection (OX-1 designed accordingly)
· Potential stand idea: 4 poles that attach to frame, can stick into porous ground to lift OX-1 wheel
· Water filtration
o Focus on filtering out larger sediment i.e. 40 microns too fine
o Solar pasteurization treatment of water to kill bacteria
§ bladders in cart to bake in the sun?
--> Action: research solar pasteurization bladders/ materials to make our own water storage container

Meeting with Professors in lab space - 4/19/17
· Pursue both cases of pump choice (rotary and reciprocating) to please sponsor but focus more on the system we think will achieve optimal performance
--> Action: research pump options and determine optimal choices based on weighted decision table
· Need to adjust gears to meet power requirements
o Ask sponsor if pushing bike uphill is an option
o Buy off the shelf gear train (don’t waste time designing own)
· Show numbers and figures of results to sponsor and provide visual/hands on demonstrations to help get our points across
--> Action: present sponsor with explanatory documents to clarify concepts and supplement discussion about product deliverables
· O-rings on piston produce friction and require oil to function so not a feasible design
· Could remove wheel and attach pump in its place to conserve energy and optimize pump performance --> *not preferable by sponsor
