Overview of Status of Analysis, Design, Fabrication, Tests, etc.
Awaiting shipment of parts
Thermocouple confirmed to work with amplifier
Wind tunnel and test setup complete
Wind tunnel setup under construction
Accomplishments from Previous Week
Wind tunnel materials purchased and built
Honeycomb Panels should arrive by 5/3 or 5/4
Heater should arrive by 5/3
Effective thermal conductivity method is complete, much thanks to Professor Friend.
Proof of Concept completed
Goals for Next Week (list names after each item). Use specific and measurable objectives.
Start 3D analysis by learning how to use Ansys FLUENT (David)
Fabricate Honeycomb Panels to size
Begin preliminary testing to see any problems in test procedure
Fix said problems if any in test procedure
Verify if a heat distributor such as graphite sheet is needed
Begin making a simulation of the heat transfer in the nose lip to see if de-icing is feasible for a given average thermal conductivity

4/27: Provide analytical methods and results for calculations we performed
Included in Proof of Concept PowerPoint
Instructor Comments from Last Meeting and Actions Taken to Address these Comments (indicate date of comments and if via email or in person)
4/25: Consider using insulation from 171a heat transfer lab.
Looked into it, calcium silicate's thermal conductivity is higher than fiber glass
Decided to use more readily available insulation from Home Depot and use the standards (in our Proof of Concept powerpoint) to construct our insulation set up
