Basic 2D Heat Transfer Model With Relevent Equations Made for Simulation
Accomplishments from Previous Week
Basic 2D Heat Transfer Model Completed With Relevent Equations
Initial list of lab needs completed
Risk Reduction Decided. Solidworks will be used
Discussion with Tom for use of heat furnace for model experimentation
Goals for Next Week (list names after each item). Use specific and measurable objectives.
Design a model for experimentation in the furnace
Have working simulation and simulate parameters in solidworks or matlab in 1D heat transfer.
Use simulation to brainstorm solutions to problem so they can be tested later and to order materials
Sponsor Comments from Last Meeting and Actions Taken to Address these Comments
Sponsor suggested two different adhesives: (FM300-2M, 0.0086 inch) and (EA9658, 0.0115 inch). Sponsor Recommends EA9658 for its resistance of up to 350 Farenheit. Recomends new bonding methods or adhesives.
TO BE ADDRESSED: Research cost effective adhesives or bonding methods after simulating parameters to constrain the demands of the adhesives.
Sponsor suggested neglecting convective heat transfer from the holes in the perforated skin. Perforated skin is 4-5% POA.
Assumed simple conductivity with the 95% of the area.
Sponsor suggested we assume the outside air to have a heat transfer coefficient of 40 Btu/hr·ft2·°F
So we did.
Sponsor suggested to stick with a simple 2D or 1D heat transfer problem with appropriate assumptions
We totally did
Instructor Comments from Last Meeting and Actions Taken to Address these Comments
Suggests to use a software other than solidworks if complex heat analysis is to be modeled
We decided to simplify the problem to a 1D heat transfer problem.
Risks and Areas of Concern
Concern/Risk that assuming a 1D heat transfer problem (especially due to the irregular shape of the nose lip) may result in inaccurate simulation
Resources or Information Required but not Available
Unknown thermal conductivity values of adhesives
Unknown thermal conductivity value of honeycomb structure
Maybe we treat it similarly to the perforated skin since it is porous
Schedule
Design a model for experimentation in the furnace
Simulate parameters in solidworks or matlab in 1D heat transfer.
