Overview of Status of Analysis, Design, Fabrication, Tests, etc.
This past week we have eliminated one of the most popular designs, modifing an existing ultralift. Through free body diagrams and analysis it was determined that it was not feasible to use for the project. A prototype is being assembled on Sunday April 7, 2013 to perform risk reduction on a newer design.
Accomplishments from Previous Week
Josh - Determined lifting moment required to lift the cabinet so it can be tilted backwards, and thus eliminated the possibility of using an Ultralift product.
Josh - Completed map for delivery of cabinet and sent to Sponsors for delivery of test cabinet.
Romulus - Complete the design proposal presentation.
Dev - Contacted Ultralift Inc. and spoke with design engineers regarding our project. The Ultralift corporation is solving a similar problem for Lockheed Martin. Their solution would not work with our Sponsor's cabinet.
William - Contacted "Handle It" Incorporated requesting information regarding one of their tilt table models, awaiting reply.
Goals for Next Week (list names after each item). Use specific and measurable objectives.
Build Scaled model of cabinet and lifting mechanism using wood and pneumatic actuators from component room. - Dev and William
Discuss the new design with the sponsor to gain approval. - Entire Team during sponsor meeting.
Determine length and position of outriggers through analysis- Josh
Finalize the design after consultation with sponsor and instructor. - Entire Team
Complete the Selected Sections of the Report due Friday April 12, 2013. - Romulus and Josh
Sponsor Comments from Last Meeting and Actions Taken to Address these Comments (indicate date of comments and if via email or in person)
ULTRALIFT idea was pushed to backup, focus on original ideas (4/3/2013). Analysis shows that the Ultralift design is not feasible for this project.
Create Physical Prototype and/or CAD design of final idea (4/3/2013). Wooden Prototype is being deisgned for both the cabinet and the proposed design.
Create map directions and provide contact info to TERADATA for the delivery of test cabinet and weights (4/3/2013). Josh has created and sent to sponsors.
If using electric motor, drive designs towards ones that can use 12 Volt battery. (4/3/2013) - Noted, no action taken yet.
Instructor Comments from Last Meeting and Actions Taken to Address these Comments (indicate date of comments and if via email or in person)
Put more information on the progress reports and have them updated 1 day prior to scheduled meetings. Action Taken: Following instructions and completing everything early with more information. (in person, 4/3/2013)
Drive concept towards maximizing the use of existing designs. Action Taken: Both the previously eliminated design and the current proposal are maximizing use of existing designs (in person, 4/3/2013).
If patent infringement becomes a possibility bring in patent information for review (in person, 4/3/2013). Noted.
Comments from Other Students in the Class (indicate date of comments and if via email or in person)

Risks and Areas of Concern
The large moment required to lift the cabinet and tilt it back 90 degrees.
Length and function of the outriggers.
Mechanics of hydraulic assembly lifting
Resources or Information Required but not Available
On Monday we plan to talk with the Machine shop regarding the availablity of hydraulics in the component room.
Schedule
The upcoming weeks milestones include: Construction of the draft Report, Complete Proposal Presentation, Create a 1:3 scaled Prototype of the cabinet and proposed design, consult with the sponsor regarding the new design, finalize the design and purchase essiential components.
Gannt chart is uploaded and linked to the website's internal pages through a google spreadsheet.
As of 2:40 pm 4/7/2013 no purchases made, but planned for raw materials from Home Depot scheduled.
Progress on Report and Webpage
The selected sections of the report have been started and the webpage is being added to daily.
