Hello Families,
Welcome to fourth grade! I’m looking forward to a year filled with learning with your child. I’d like to share some information with you about the upcoming year.
Mastery of math facts (addition, subtraction, multiplication & division 0 - 10) is essential. Adding and subtracting with regrouping in also a crucial skill. Your student will have access to IXL for extra practice with math at home. If you know more practice is needed to master math facts or topics from previous grades, IXL is a great way to do it. It is my recommendation that students review and master their third grade skills at home.
Also, children become better readers by reading and being read to, so read together as often as you can!
Band is mandatory in fourth grade. All students will need a marching band instrument. You may want to ask family members to check closets, basements & garages for a band instrument. It doesn’t have to be new.
Partnership between school and home is vital to your child’s education. No one plays a bigger role in the education of a child than their family. I am looking forward to working together to provide the best educational experience for your child.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Bybee
P.S. Try this for math facts ...
Fact Practice with Playing Cards
Take the face cards out and use ace - 10
Take two cards and add them together 6 + 7 = 13
Switch the order 7 + 6 = 13
Subtract one card from the sum 13 - 6 = 7
Subtract the other card from the sum 13 - 7 = 6
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Take two cards and multiply them 6 x 7 = 42
Switch the order 7 x 6 = 42
Divide the product by one card 42 ÷ 6 = 7
Divide the product by the other card 42 ÷ 7 = 6
