Students will be using IXL, an internet based program throughout the year in a couple of different ways.
At the beginning of the school year, students will take a Real-Time Diagnostic Test on IXL. This test will allow me to quickly assess students' grade-level proficiency in English language arts. Based on this diagnostic, IXL creates a personalized plan for each student. These are skills that are just-right for them to help them grow. Students will be working on this action plan through out the school year. They should complete recommended skills to a SmartScore of 80. This is a simple but effective way to keep students' learning growing! These activities are not graded. They are to help all students work at their level and improve their understanding of English language arts. Below, you can click on the links for additional information.
Students will also be assigned an IXL, or two, weekly to practice skills that have previously been taught. This helps reinforce these skills. IXLs are assigned at the beginning of a week and students have until the end of the week to complete them. Students have the option to practice assigned IXLs as much as they want to. Scores are based on either the ten question quiz or practicing and getting their SmartScore. The SmartScore is used to figure the score for the grade book. If students are not happy with the quiz grade, they can continue to practice until the due date and take that score. Students have the opportunity to earn bonus points if they get their score to 90-99 or 100!
SmartScore Score in Grade Book
100 = 12/10 (+2 Bonus)
90 - 99 = 11/10 (+1 Bonus)
80 - 89 = 10/10
70 - 79 = 8/10
60 - 69 = 6/10
50 - 59 = 4/10
40 - 49 = 2/10
< 39 = 0/10
