In PSC we recognize birthdays by inviting the student up to join the teachers during story time (it helps if they remind us!). They welcome to bring in a special book to share. We will have them share and sing them a song. We cannot celebrate with food. Birthday party invitations should not be passed out at school. We apologize for the inconvenience, but this tends to hurt feelings and cause problems in the classroom. If you cannot find a child’s name on our class roster, feel free to contact us and we can connect you with their parents.
In primary we do not provide snack, but students will be given time to eat if they choose. Your child will probably need a snack at the beginning of the year especially. The best snacks are healthy, give them energy to keep them going, and can be eaten quickly and cleanly. We do have nut allergies in our classroom. We need your help to keep everyone safe by not sending snacks containing nuts. This does not apply to lunches since we are able to secure a nut free table in the cafeteria. Snack, however, is eaten in the classroom and cannot include nuts.
We are collecting a fee and buying all supplies in bulk. You can pay here using your credit card, or you can send a check for $55, please make sure your student's name is written in the memo line. If your family is in need of a scholarship you can fill out this form and submit it to the office. The only supplies you need to provide are: backpack, waterbottle, and headphones. Please also send your child to school with their Chromebook.
During the first couple weeks, students will not yet be in their math or language groups in PSC. We will be doing more whole group community building and buddy work. There will be lots of activities designed to help them get adjusted to our space and routines as well as get to know each other. We will also be doing some initial academic assessments to get to know them as learners. After the first couple weeks, we will be grouping them for math and language so that we can best differentiate for their needs. Going forward, part of each day will be spent in these groups with either Katie or Jessica working on developmentally specific learning goals. Part of each day will also continue to be whole group with both teachers as we work on social/emotional learning.
Students will also spend time in multiage groups each day for content learning like PE, music, library, science, art, social studies, etc. We have linked a list of these "specialist groups" for you here. Currently your child is listed as either in the "A" group or the "B" group. Students will be naming these groups themselves so stay tuned (we have had some creative names). At the top of each list you will see which days your child has PE, music, or library.
Our website has a wealth of information and resources. It should be your first stop for anything you might be looking for. You will find day-to-day information as well as important dates, event details, and our class calendar. You will find information about what we are learning this year and our various curricula. Most documents that you receive through email or print will also be posted to the website. If you need contact information you can also find that here.
Facebook is convenient for many of us and allows us to connect as a community. If you have a facebook account, we encourage you to join our group by following the link above. Our facebook group is not meant to be the primary way that teachers communicate with you, however, we will often post reminders. The true purpose of our facebook group is to allow families to connect with one another. Feel free to share and ask and answer questions. We are proud to say that we have always had a positive, respectful online community. Help us continue to model digital citizenship for our students and if you have any doubts as to whether something should be posted, send it privately.
Seesaw is a great way to see your student's work. We are continuing to explore the best ways to use this incredible tool. You should already be connected with your student's Seesaw account, please contact the teachers if you are not.

This is the best way to reach Katie and Jessica directly. The kids are always our first priority during the day, but we will do our best to get back to you as quickly as possible. If you need to get a message to your child before the end of the day, contact the office and they will pass on the information. We cannot guarantee that we can check our messages in time during the school day so please go through the school office. We know how quickly inboxes fill up so we try to keep our class emails to a minimum. We send out bi-monthly newsletters with curriculum and event information (please read them!). You will also receive occasional messages from our class volunteer coordinator with class and MIT information. Make sure you have completed the Family Information Survey so that our coordinator has your email.
