Junior Health

Junior Health Course Description

The Junior Health Syllabuses contains many topics to assist the students after graduation from JP Stevens. Something new this year is the requirement that all students learn CPR. Bystander CPR is taught along with how to use an AED (automated external defibrillator) and what to do if someone is choking (Heimlich Maneuver.) Other common first aid skills are also included. Each marking period, the juniors teach CPR/AED/Heimlich to volunteer faculty, staff, administrators and the PE FAST team. The First Aid Response Team or FAST is comprised of students identified by their PE teacher as leaders and responsible citizens. The health students train the FAST team in emergency response and CPR so they can assist their PE teachers in a real situation, should one arise in the gym or on the playing fields. In addition, Junior Health includes; Stress, Sexuality, Bullying, Drug Use and Abuse, Human Reproduction, and Diseases/Health Conditions and First Aid. The focus is on preparing students for life’s challenges. Please enjoy the pictures and videos below.
