ACT

Juniors will have the opportunity to take the ACT test at DBHS in April 2024.  Students do NOT need to register online for the April test date, since it will be administered at our school.  Seniors should sign up with Mrs. Mortenson.  Students who are eligible to receive Free/Reduced Lunch can take this test free of charge.

Students planning on attending a 4-year college are usually not required to take the ACT for college admission anymore, but it can help with getting some scholarships.

The ACT test covers English, Mathematics, Reading, and Science.  There is also an optional Writing test.  Some colleges require the Writing test, while others do not.  The University of Minnesota requires the Writing test, whereas most of the other public colleges and universities in MN do not.  If you have a question regarding whether or not to take the writing test, you can contact the college or see me for help with this.

The ACT (no writing) costs $68 and the ACT plus Writing costs $93.  Fee waivers are available to students who qualify based on economic need (students receiving free or reduced lunch may qualify).  Students may pick up ACT Fee Waivers in the counseling office.

Students must register ONLINE (click on the link below).  This does NOT apply to Juniors taking the test at DBHS in April 2024.

ACT Prep/Practice tests:  Students may pick up a FREE ACT Practice Test in the counseling office.  There is also a FREE ACT preparation program at the March2Success website at www.freetestprep.com--click on the link below.

The High School Code for Dawson-Boyd is 240-600.

Students are encouraged to select up to 4 colleges on their registration form in order to have their ACT results sent directly after testing.

Students must bring acceptable ID and present their "Admission Ticket" when checking-in at their ACT test site or they will NOT be admitted to test.  The admission ticket alone is NOT acceptable ID.  The ID provided must be an ORIGINAL, not a copy.  A current official photo ID (driver's license or passport) is an example of an acceptable ID.  For more information regarding ID requirements, go to www.actstudent.org.

Also see the ACT website for information on:  Test Dates & Deadlines, Photo ID requirements, Admission Ticket, Calculators, and Test Day Checklist.

If you have any questions, you may contact the ACT office at 1-319-337-1270 (Mon-Fri, 8:30am-5:00pm)
