The following is a comprehensive list of the topics that are covered in Algebra 1. These are listed under the Major Topic Information page as well.
Graphs and Data
Histograms
I can create and read histograms for any given set of data.
Measures of Center
I am able to accurately calculate the mean and median of any given set of data (including use of frequency tables). I can then determine which would be better to use for a situation.
Measures of Spread
I am able to accurately calculate the range and interquartile range (IQR) of any given set of data. I can then determine which would be better to use for a situation.
Box Plots
I am able to create and read box plots for any given set of data (including stacked box plots). I can modify a box plot if any outliers exist.
Finding Outliers
I am able to correctly identify outliers in any given set of data.
Data Transformations
I am able to determine how measures of center and spread will change if all data points in a set moved by the same amount (using multiplication, division, addition, and subtraction).
Vertex-Edge Graphs
Euler Circuits and Paths
I am able to determine if an Euler Circuit or Path exists. If one exists, I can find it in a given graph.
Vertex-Edge Conflict Resolution (Graph Coloring)
I am able to use vertex-edge graph coloring to resolve conflicts.
Linear Equations
Creating Linear Equations
I am able to use 2 points, a slope and a point, a table, a graph, or a description to create a linear equation in Slope-Intercept Form (y = mx + b).
Solving Linear Equations/Inequalities
I am able to solve multi-step linear equations and inequalities involving 1 variable (including use of the distributive property).
Systems of Equations
I am able to algebraically find the intersection point of a pair of linear equations using the Substitution and Elimination methods.
Linear Regression
I am able to create a linear regression equation using technology. I can use that equation to make predictions and use the correlation value to determine how well it fits.
Exponential Equations
Creating Exponential Equations
I am able to express written descriptions algebraically as an exponential equation.
Solving Exponential Equations
I am able to solve exponential equations involving 1 variable analytically.
Exponent Rules
I can simplify exponential expressions using properties of exponent rules discussed in class (including multiplication, division, power, and negative expressions).
Simplifying Radicals
I am able to simplify radical expressions (square roots only) using the properties of exponent rules (including variable expressions).
Quadratic Equations
Quadratic Transformations
I am able to accurately describe the y-intercept, width, and direction of a parabola (in relation to its parent graph) given a quadratic equation in standard or vertex form.
Solving Quadratic Equations
I am able to find all real roots of a quadratic equation using Quadrus (Square Root) Method, Factoring, and the Quadratic Formula.
Probability
Basic Probability
I am able to find the probability of a given event occurring (including use of Multiplication Rule).
Geometric Probability
I am able to find the probability of a situation using geometric properties (including area and perimeter).
Probability Simulations
I am able to design and implement simulations for basic scenarios (where I know the likelihood) using appropriate tools (including dice, coins, and random numbers).
