Fitness Gram

Fitnessgram

The fitnessgram is a health related youth fitness assessment. In this assessment students are able to learn about their fitness levels and gain a deeper understanding of the relationship between fitness and health. This assessment uses evidence based standards to measure the level of fitness needed for good overall health. This assessment uses criterion-referenced standards verses percentile norms. They use criterion-referenced standards because they are based on levels of fitness for good overall health. These levels do differ between boys and girls and varies across age.

There are five components that are tested in the fitnessgram: Aerobic capacity, body composition, muscular strength, muscular endurance, and flexibility. The goal of the Fitnessgram is for every child to be in what they classify as the Healthy Fitness Zone on as many of the components as possible.

In order to maintain your child’s fitness level outside of PE it is encouraged to work on the different components of the test. Aerobic capacity: running, Muscular strength and Endurance: Push ups and curl ups (sit-ups) and Flexibility: trunk lift, shoulder stretch, and sit and reach.
