Students from a private, home, or out-of-district school will schedule a time with a proctor at the at the Emily Griffith Campus- 1860 Lincoln Street, Denver (close to the Brown Palace Hotel). You will receive an email at a later date with information about how and when to schedule the testing.
Things to Know About the Testing
Your proctor will email you at least 24 hours prior to the testing session with information about where to park and what to do when you get to the building.
Be sure to choose 1860 Lincoln, Denver when programming your GPS (otherwise you will end up by Park Meadows Mall)
Length of Testing
The NNAT (administered to students in ECE, K, 2nd, and 6th grades) allows for 30 minutes to complete with no breaks. Since the testing is administered one-on-one, most students take around 15 minutes to complete.
The CogAT (administered to students in 1st, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 7th, and 8th grades) allows for 90 minutes to complete without breaks. Each proctor will allow for breaks between subtests. Since the testing is administered one-on-one, most students do not take the entire time allotted to complete their test, however, it is good to plan for 2 hours for the testing.
Breaks in CogAT
There will be periodic breaks during the testing sessions, so please supply a light snack for your child.
Waiting for Your Student
Parents/guardians will be able to wait on site while your child completes the testing. There are designated break areas near the conference rooms where you may wait. We do have public wifi.
If you plan to leave while your child is testing, you must provide a number to your proctor where you can be reached in the case of an emergency.
Kindergartners, second graders, and sixth graders usually finish within 15-20 minutes. All other grade levels completing the CogAT may take up to two hours to complete. Since most testers will be taking their assessment in a one-on-one environment, the student will determine the pace of their testing, so they may finish sooner than the time listed above.
Results
You will receive the results of your child's test and the determination of magnet eligibility on May 5th. You will receive the scores on the email filed on the original nomination form. Please make sure you check your spam folder.
Since this round of School Choice functions on a first-come, first-served basis, all magnet eligibility notices will be sent at the same time to ensure fairness. No scores will be released prior to May 5, 2025.
Students scoring in the 95%ile or higher on the NNAT Age Percentile Ranking (APR) or in the Age Percentile Rankings (APR) in any one of in the three subtests of the CogAT (Verbal, Quantitative, Nonverbal) will be considered magnet eligible and may file an application for the School Choice.
