It is all about creating a path for high school students to experience and explore the career opportunities that are possible in the manufacturing industry. School based learning through core subjects like Mathematics, Science, English, ICT and Engineering Studies can provide the foundations for students pursuing a career in manufacturing and STEM based occupations and this can be supported by the inclusion of iSTEM in the Stage 5 curriculum.

Aerodynamics
Aerodynamics Notes
Aerodynamics is the study of moving air and the forces that it produces. People who design things that move through the air, or have air move past them need to be familiar with aerodynamics. (2.5mb Word doc)
Dragsters
Design a dragster which will have the best drag ratio. (3mb Word doc)

Invent It - Build It
Six hands-on challenges designed to spark the inventive spirit. Includes a confetti launcher, a get-moving game, a harmless holder for six cans, a sturdy shelter that’s easy to build, a convenient carrier for someone using crutches or a wheelchair to carry all their stuff as well as the call to invent a better world - solutions for needs found in daily life. (5.5mb PDF)
NASA & Design Squad - On the Moon
NASA and Design Squad® team up to bring six hands-on challenges. These fun challenges will have students thinking like engineers and excited about NASA’s missions to the moon.
Touchdown
Design and build a shock-absorbing system that will protect two “astronauts” when they land. (1mb PDF)
Heavy Lifting
Design and build a crane and see how heavy a load it can lift. (1mb PDF)
On Target
On the Moon - All activities
Includes Touchdown, Heavy Lifting and On Target as well as Launch It, Roving on the Moon and Feel the Heat. (5.5mb PDF)
Modify a paper cup so it can zip down a line and drop a marble onto a target. (1mb PDF)
Paper Table
Design and build a table out of newspaper tubes. Make it at least eight inches tall and strong enough to hold a heavy book. (500kb PDF)
Paper Table Leader Notes
(750kb PDF)
Robot Basketball
Students learn about accuracy and precision by working in teams to design and build a robotic basketball player that can accurately shoot a free-throw shot 3 times in a row. (200kb PDF)

Design and build something that can carry a Ping-Pong ball from the top of a zip line string to the bottom in four seconds (or less!). (500kb PDF)
Lean Thinking
An Introduction to Lean Thinking
Lean Thinking embodies a set of design principles that guide an organisation to deliver its purpose more and more effectively; continuously improving service delivery, systematically reducing all forms of waste and ultimately contributing positively to society. (140kb PDF)
Management Principals and Deming's 14 Likes
Principles which are necessary to create the best environment for an organisation to move forward. (70kb PDF)
Lean Simulation
A simulation of a complex aerospace enterprise. Tables of 4-6 people represent major silos. Each person has their own facility, or “mat”. The game goals are to build lego aircraft efficiently, make “money”, and adapt to changes in supply base and customer need. (2.5mb ppt)
Mathematics
Computational Fluid Dynamics
Fluid (gas and liquid) flows are governed by partial differential equations (PDE) which represent conservation laws for the mass, momentum, and energy. Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) is the art of replacing such PDE systems by a set of algebraic equations which can be solved using digital computers.
