Guide to Coding and Computational Thinking
This BOSTES site offers a guide which draws out the areas where coding and computational thinking can be applied within the existing NSW K–8 syllabuses. It is organised into stages of learning and subdivided into learning areas, with suggested activities and links to online resources.
STEM Video Game Challenge
The Australian STEM Video Game Challenge is a national competition open to all Australian students in Years 5-12.
National STEM Centre (UK)
The National STEM Centre houses the UK’s largest collection of STEM teaching and learning resources, in order to provide teachers of STEM subjects with the ability to access a wide range of high-quality support materials. In the eLibrary you will find 10,000 resources, collections (of resources) and resources have been created and uploaded by users of the website (not quality assured but very interesting). You can filter by subject, age range, activity type and format.
AITSL Maths & Science
AITSL has developed a series of illustrations of teaching as part of the national and international focus on increasing student engagement in science, mathematics, engineering and technology learning.
Street Science
Street Science is a commercial operation that runs in school workshops aimed at “exciting and engaging Australia’s youth”. It allows students to investigate scientific principles through real life experiments and activities.
STELR
STELR is an initiative of the Australian Academy of Technological Sciences and Engineering. It contains resources, modules and information about innovative Science teaching. There is also details about the equipment packs that can be purchased by schools at low rates (St Joseph’s Tweed has these packs if you want more information).
QUT - The Cube
“The Cube” at the QUT in the grounds of the Botanical Gardens in Brisbane is one of the world’s most advanced learning centres for STEM – it provides free educational seminars for secondary school groups and would be of excellent value to our Northern schools.
STEM Australia
This site coherently links the importance of STEM to the future careers of our students. It contains a range of excellent video resources to support teachers and has links to numerous members of the STEM “community”.
STEMCrAfT Framework
The STEMCrAfT framework was developed by the University of Tasmania and aims to provide opportunities for teachers of STEM to work together, to share ideas, experience and solutions. It is based on the concept of a “Community of Practice”.
Education Perfect - Science
Offering a free trial and “Australian Curriculum” based this site allows for teacher contributions, can provide home tasks and teacher assessments whilst being competitive on a school, national and global level.
ASSIST
This Australian Science Teachers association site is a free national online advisory service for school science educators. An extensive range of educationally sound and safety-compliant practical activities for a hands-on, inquiry based study of science in school science laboratories and classrooms is available on the site.
University of Wollongong - Engineering & Information Sciences - High School Competitions
The University of Wollongong runs a range of Maths, Science, Engineering and STEM competitions across Years 7 to 12 – they are engaging, hands on and linked to the curriculum with great prizes on offer.
EQuS
This site aims to stimulate the Australian scientific and engineering communities in regards next-generation technologies, especially Quantum science and physics. EQuS will visit northern NSW schools or arrange a “virtual school visit” via VC.
STEM Career Packs and Videos are resources for upper primary, middle school teachers and careers counsellors. The packs include interview footage and classroom activities aligned to the Australian Curriculum. The interviews feature scientists, engineers and mathematicians talking about their work, education and everyday life.

The Calculate site is an AMSI Mathematics portal with a range of resources (modules, video materials etc.) to support teachers and students.
