Our Mission: Promoting an environmentally friendly world by coordinating and practicing: reduce, reuse and recycle in the DLS community.

We are currently in charge of all recycling at DLS!  We also have helped DLS earn "Green School" as well as Emerald Status through the Macomb County Green Schools Program in the past.  Meeting are at least once a month; and members are committed to participating in events as often as once per week.  Our purpose is to make DLS a more environmentally friendly place.

Our Goals/Tasks Include:
Coordinate recycling events (paper, plastic, bottles, classroom single stream, and electronics); educate community to reduce waste, promote reduce, reuse, & recycled; implement new ideas; plan Earth day event(s); complete paperwork to help DLS earn Green-School Status; complete service at or off campus (service); etc.

NEW for 2018-19: SAVE Club is in need of student-leaders!  Positions are available such as President and Vice-President!  We will elect our leader(s) after a couple of fall meetings.  See bulletin in August and September for upcoming meetings.

Mrs. Jacks (see contact tab above) is the moderator for SAVE club.  Students are encouraged to visit room 432 for more information.

DLS recycles paper and other items in red or blue bins around the school.  Additionally, some teachers are using large cardboard boxes to collect recyclables.
  • In 2016-17 SAVE club added nearly 2 dozen donated, plastic recycle bins with laminated labels across the school, with the help of senior, Matthew Isopi (pictured below).
  • Click on picture to rotate it.
  • Currently, sportsman club collects returnable ($0.10) beverage bottles/cans.  This helps raise money for entry fees (etc).  Please drop off your returnable bottles/cans in the proper receptacles around DLS.
  • Collection of gently used shoes and pants for the Kino Border Initiative.  Contact Mrs. Howay at for more info
  • DLS partners with Forgotten Harvest to bring typically unharvested food to those who are hungry.
