Our Mission: Protecting the environment by recycling, cleaning litter, and promoting an environmentally friendly world.

Our Goals/Tasks Include: Coordinate recycling events (paper, plastic, bottles, classroom single stream, plastic bags, and electronics); educate the community to reduce waste, promote reduce, reuse, & recycle; implement new ideas; plan Earth day event(s); complete paperwork to help DLS earn Green-School Status; complete service at or off-campus (service); and more.

We are currently in charge of all recycling at DLS! We also have helped DLS earn "Green School" as well as Emerald (2023-24) and Evergreen (2022-23) Status through the Macomb County Green Schools Program in the past, including 2018-19 and 2019-20. In 2020-21 we earned Emerald status, most improved, and other designations! Meetings are at least 2 times per month; and members are committed to participating in events as often as once per week. Our purpose is to make DLS a more environmentally friendly place.

Why Join SAVE Club?

Aside from the obvious, this service-based eco-friendly club has much more than meets-the-eye to offer students who join.

SAVE Club is an excellent place for students to sharpen many skills, including leadership, project-planning, technology, communications/PR, marketing, and more. While an interest in promoting green habits is recommended, it is not required to join this club.

Here are just some of the reasons to consider joining SAVE Club:

Students make TV slides, padlet videos, parent newsletter announcements to promote the club's initiatives.

Students navigate lengthy green-school applications and draft necessary documentation before obtaining proper signatures and sending it to Macomb County.

Students organize events from soliciting permission and making signs to working the event, documenting it for PR and green school points, to collecting and applying funds toward green efforts.

Leaders make detailed agendas in advance, post them to a google classroom that they maintain, work collaboratively in a shared google drive, and take attendance at meetings. They also typically run the meetings, organize brainstorms, delegate tasks to members, and meet regularly with the adult moderator who provides guidance all along the way.

March 2025 News: SAVE Club welcomed a representative from Macomb County Public Works for a special presentation on water quality, quality of life, and economic sustainability. This event took place during an ecology class and provided valuable insights into environmental stewardship and local governance.

August 2018: Students planted perennials in two shrub beds near the baseball batting cages. More pictures.
Since 2016 SAVE club added nearly 2 dozen donated, plastic recycle bins with laminated labels across the school, with the help of former senior, Matthew Isopi.
SAVE club, in the past, had a system to collect returnable ($0.10) beverage bottles/cans. This is not currently active.
In the past, DLS partnered with Forgotten Harvest to bring typically unharvested food to those who are hungry.
