Students went to the House of Providence in Detroit, October 1, 2013 to help with organization of a garage and shed on the property. This home will house over 15 orphan girls between the ages of 11-17 who are currently in the foster care program in the metro Detroit area. Students cleared out a 70 year old garage filled with junk that had accumulated over many decades, making room for the needs of the HOP as it plans to open sometime in October, 2013.

Students brought with them over 2 dozen novels and some $$ to get the HOP library started.

Last Spring, the DLS staff participated in a service project at the HOP helping with landscape, clean up, painting, organization, and more!

In the following months, Mr. Barker will be arranging for 2-3 additional service trips to the HOP that will include similar activities. The HOP hopes to acquire the home next door as well as an adjacent lot for a recreation area. Our DLS community intends to continue this relationship with HOP as they work toward their mission (see below).

"The House of Providence is a therapeutic home for minors who are wards of the State of Michigan and who find themselves languishing without a prospect of adoption. We provide vital ministry to children in need of intervention and support services. As a result of the direct care and individual attention given, these youths will grow into whole, independent and successful adults realizing the potential that God has destined for them. Most importantly, they will become part of a family that will provide a permanent support system, perhaps for the first time ever."
