IB Slideshow 2018

The arrival of this year’s freshman class marks the fourteenth year of students from throughout Douglas County embarking upon a path of study in the International Baccalaureate Program at DCHS. We are honored to offer the most rigorous academic course of study available to high school students in the world, designed to develop outstanding communication, problem solving, and social skills, while encouraging active extra-curricular involvement and service.

This year, nearly 400 PreIB and IB students from six continents will work toward earning the full IB diploma. Our students thrive in the inclusive and supportive environment at Douglas County High School, contributing in exceptional ways in academics, athletics, the arts, public service, and a host of other extracurricular pursuits.

Colleges and universities have tremendous respect for the comprehensive program of study that requires students to take 22 IB classes, and particularly the willingness of those who take the most challenging courses available during their high school years. IB graduates enjoy twice the usual acceptance rate to competitive universities, and three times that at the service academies. In recognition of their dedication and success in the IB program, students from the DCHS IB program have been accepted to Harvard, Duke, Brown, the University of Pennsylvania, Vanderbilt, Georgia Tech, the University of Georgia, MIT, West Point, the Air Force Academy, Cornell, Carnegie Mellon, Cal Tech, Emory, NYU, the University of Chicago, Yale, Stanford and many other outstanding schools in the United States and abroad.

In addition to college acceptance benefits, International Baccalaureate provides great advantages in earning college credits and winning scholarships. Each year a number of our IB graduates earn more than 20 credit hours, and some as many as 36, saving a great deal of time and money at the post-secondary level. The members of this year’s senior class earned offerings of more than $20 million in scholarships, truly a testament to the respect colleges and universities have for the academic rigor and tireless work of the students at Douglas County High School.

We hope that all of our visitors find this site informative and engaging. It is truly our pleasure to serve and support the students and families that come from all corners of Douglas County to join us at DCHS as IB Tigers.
