Physical Education Evaluation Policies

Physical Education is an elective course that incorporates physical fitness, team & individual sports, movement, sporstmanship & fair play, and healthy lifestyle choices, into a fun learning environment. Aspects of physical fitness addressed in class are strength, balance, flexibility, and cardiovascular endurance through sports like Spikeball, softball, basketball, tennis, volleyball, pickleball, and badminton.

Attendance: Each student may earn up to 10 points a day.

Tardy: Lose 2-3 points for the day.

Excused Absence: HRHS PE make-up policy allows 45-minutes of fitness-related activity to count for each excused absence. Please write a note describing your activity and how long you did it. Parents sign their name and include their phone number. This must be turned in within 5 school days of absence(s) for credit. Note: You cannot do make-up's in advance of absences. All make-ups are done AFTER absence status is established.

Unexcused Absence: Lose 10 points for the day. See teacher for make-up assignment.

If you miss a Fitness Day: See teacher for make-up assignment.

Grading:

Activity – 75% of your grade. A daily activity grade of 10 points will be given if you come to class prepared and actively participate the entire class period. If you choose not to participate in an activity, you will lose all 10 points. This also includes dressing in appropriate athletic attire. Choosing not to dress out results in a 5-point activity deduction.

Quizzes/Tests, Assessments, Final Exam, etc. – 12.5% of your grade.

Fitness Days, Fitness Challenges, etc. - 12.5% of your grade. Fitness-related activities will each be worth 10 points. If you are not participating, you will not earn the 10 points. If you miss a Fitness Day, see teacher for make-up assignment.

Dress: Students are required to wear appropriate clothing suited for vigorous movement and exercise. Modest shorts, t-shirts, tank tops, leggings, sweats, joggers, and yoga pants are all acceptable. Students are to follow the school dress code, which includes no cleavage or exposed butts/stomachs and appropriate logos on clothing. All dangling jewelry should be removed before class. Sturdy, supportive athletic shoes are also required. A small workout towel and water bottle are recommended but not required.

Fees: Lockers and locks are provided, free of charge. However, a lock fee of $5.00 will be collected for locks lost or not returned at the end of the semester. Please remember to lock all possessions in your locker during class.

Reporting to Class: Attendance is taken in the lower gym 5 minutes after the tardy bell. Unexcused tardies will result in a 3-point deduction.

Dismissal from Class: Class will be dismissed 6-10 minutes before the bell rings, allowing time to change clothing. Please stay in the locker room/gym area until the dismissal bell. If the class doesn’t dress out (lectures, films, tests, review sessions, etc.), class will be dismissed at the bell.

Injuries and Illness: Any injury or illness that occurs during class should be reported to your instructor immediately. If future participation in class is limited, a physician’s note is requested stating the nature of the condition and the extent of the limitations.

Academic Honesty Policy: Cheating on written work and tests will not be tolerated and will result in a grade of 0 on the assignment or test. A student who cheats will also be subject to disciplinary action per school policy. Cell phones are not allowed to be visible while a student is in possession of a written test.

Poor Behavior: Name calling, profanity, inappropriate gesturing, etc. will not be tolerated. Inappropriate behavior may result in a loss of points for the day. Fighting will result in an automatic trip to the office.

Here’s to lifelong health and fitness!
