Teens who love to read will enjoy TeenReads. The website features reviews of new and popular books for teens, along with polls, contests and places to discuss favorite books. Teens can also work their way through the "ultimate" reading list on the site.

Guys Read encourages teen boys to read by offering book suggestions geared toward things teen boys like. Boys can browse the reading lists, read reviews or learn how to start a group locally. The site also has a Twitter page, which young boys who like to read will enjoy.

Teen Ink Teen Ink magazine offers some of the most thoughtful and creative work on a variety of subjects, generated by teens for teens.

Quint Careers offers job search tools with tutorials which include resumes, interviewing and thank you letters. The site is helpful and easy to use. Geographically-specific job sites are also available.

Teens For Planet Earth -

This is a social networking site for teenagers who want to get involved in protecting our planet. They can connect with other green-minded teens, choose a project or create their own and really make a difference. Teens For Planet Earth encourages young folks to get busy in their own communities. They offer guidance on local projects with categories such as habitats, animals, water and education. Awards are given to active members. This site is well worth checking out.

For Hollywood gossip and news featuring teen stars, this site has everything. It is recognized as a family friendly site. Teen Stars Online stays up-to-date with not only the Hollywood teen events and news but with music matters as well. They offer a clickable menu of stars, great photos and videos. Teens can interact with other teens and set up their own page, play games and write blogs.

Science News -

Science News for Kids is designed as a science news site for young teens though the information they provide is interesting enough for anyone. Articles covering space, fossils, physics, weather, the environment and many other things are offered. It's a great place for science project ideas. Also on hand are brain teasers, inventing puzzles and science fiction composition exercises. This site attracts over 50,000 visitors a day. It is well worth exploring for both students and teachers.

Driving Rules Network -

Getting ready to drive a car is usually on the minds of teens. Driving Rules Network is a good place to start. It is part of the Online Study Guide for Student Drivers which is an interactive site with practice questions and quizzes (link provided). DrivingRules Network covers driving laws including state by state laws and study guides. Teens can be well prepared when taking the drivers' test or applying for their learner's permit by making use of this site.

The InSite is designed for teens who have an interest in improving the world. Teens can learn about social justice, building a positive self-image and helping the Earth. They can also submit artwork and writing or participate in discussions about making the world a better place.

Internet Current Events for Teens

Some of the best current events for teen's sites include:

    • New York Times Student Connections offers current events for teens on a huge variety of topics in an RSS feed format that is updated regularly.
    • Belief Net Talk is a place where teens can discuss their views on today's current events and get the views of other teens as well.
    • NewsCrew gives teens a place to debate with one another about what is going on in the world.
    • Channel 1 is a news site aimed at young adults. It offers video streaming and other edgy features that today's teens will enjoy. This isn't your father's news!
    • PBS News Hour Extra has articles for students on current events. There is also a place where students can sound off and add their own input about current happenings.
