Writing

We have started the writing process by writing in our ABC Books. We do this each day to warm us up for writing. We are basically labeling. The kids choose a word they would like to write, draw a picture of it on the correct page for the beginning sound, and then write what it is under the picture. We are focusing heavily on just putting down whatever sounds they hear when they say the word. As they get to know all their sounds better, the writing will start looking more "reader friendly" to adults.

We are also Interactive Writing (IAW) as often as possible. We are "sharing the pen" to create class made posters, signs, etc. We just did a poster of our class rules and it turned out great. It is amazing how much they can "read" if they have "written" it. We are focusing on spaces between words, left to right writing, "correct" spelling of words, periods, and the concept of a sentence.
