What do we do in the music room?

The music room is a place where kids come and develop not only as musicians but to grow as people too. Our recipe for success combines a Kodaly-style approach mixed with instrumental training. In our music room the focus is three-fold: training the ear, the eye, and the hand.

Musical concepts are taught sequentially from K-6 and frequently utilize a combination of singing and gameplay in every lesson. Then we balance this with instrumental experiences and shake it up with a little movement. Some lessons are whole group while others are small. Some are tailored just right to the individual. We are musical scientists exploring the wonders of sound, pattern, and creation.

We also have a commitment taking the mystery out of reading music. Reading music can be complicated, but with patience, time, and regular practice we can all make music literacy our reality.

A healthy dose of laughter, a spoonful of sincerity, and q measure of understanding and ... voila! You have a pretty cool and highly skilled group of young musicians.

We are Summit View ... it's what we do!
