Honors Freshmen English I, 7th Period Only

Make sure you're at the right website--have you been in my class all along, this entire year?

In English I Honors, we will focus on reading and analyzing literature from a variety of authors which is more than simply summarizing the plot. We’ll do this in a variety of manners including class discussions, projects, essays, partner work, presentations, group work, and other activities. The main focus will be on thinking critically and effectively communicating your thoughts through writing and speaking.

Class readings include various poems, short stories, non-fiction articles, William Golding’s Lord of the Flies, Harper Lee’s To Kill a Mockingbird, William Shakespeare’s The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet, mythology, Charles Dickens’s A Tale of Two Cities, and John Steinbeck’s Of Mice and Men.

IMPORTANT

English I Honors is an Honors Class. That may seem unnecessary or repetitive to type, but what it means is that my expectations for work are higher. What may earn an A in a regular English class may only merit a B or B+ in honors. This doesn't mean you should drop it to pad your GPA but it DOES mean you should take this opportunity to challenge yourself, possibly redo a few assignments to learn more and improve your score, and focus on the learning and not the score.
