English I isn't just about reading literature and writing essays because few adults do those for their daily jobs. Instead, we use literature and writing to help us learn how to analyze, think critically, communicate ideas, and evaluate ourselves and our abilities to each of them. We’ll do this in a variety of manners including class discussions, projects, essays, partner work, group work, presentations, and other activities.
Class readings include various poems, short stories, non-fiction articles, Harper Lee’s To Kill a Mockingbird, William Shakespeare’s The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet, mythology, and John Steinbeck’s Of Mice and Men.

Right now, we're starting to learn who the other people in class are as well as figuring out where your reading, essay writing, grammar, and vocabulary levels are (check out Infinite Campus for more info by clicking here!). Soon we'll be starting to use poetry to improve our ability to analyze, use specifics and explanations to persuade, and having powerful word choice.
