I'll be teaching for my 15th year and all but one have been at Highlands Ranch High School. I have a bachelor's in English with an emphasis in Secondary Education from the University of Northern Colorado and am working on obtaining a Masters in Educational Leadership from Regis University. Interesting trivia: I'm one of 6 teachers at HR (not to mention a counselor) who also graduated from Highlands Ranch (class of '01!) Can you name the other four? Two of them are my former students! Do you know whom?
I once heard someone describe teaching by saying "This is entertaining, but that doesn't mean it's entertainment," which is a great way to sum up my approach towards school and the classroom. I will tell jokes and look like an idiot to help kids learn but also believe that them learning is the most important goal: they are in school after all! I use these tools to teach, not to simply entertain because if a kid wants to come to class and won't fall asleep, he or she is more likely to learn.
