Dear Band Family:

We hope you are having an amazing summer! Our time together to begin our marching band season is just a week away.  We are all excited about this year’s show and to have you be part of our marching band family.  Marching Band is the largest co-ed activity and the only co-ed activity that spends the majority of its time rehearsing and performing outside.

You each bring a unique set of skills to our ensemble, and we can’t wait to put everyone’s contributions together to make some unforgettable magic on the field. We have included a few details regarding camp to help you plan and prepare for the week. Please communicate any conflicts or concerns right away.  We look forward to seeing all of you on August 1st!

MARCHING CAMP REHEARSALS DATES/TIMES:

August 1-5 *8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m  Rehearsal for all members.

*11:45 a.m. to 12:30 p.m lunch in the cafeteria.  Bring your lunch.  *12:15 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. Rehearsal for all members

           August 5                  2:30 p.m. Public Performance

Rehearsal Needs:

Safety during band camp is our top priority.  Therefore, it is essential that students bring sunscreen, cool clothing, and insect repellant.  Water will be provided, but bring your own water bottle and plan to fill it up many times.  Parents are also asked to be on hand to assist with hydration and heat situations.

Communication:

We will be using the platform called “Band” again as well as email to communicate with all band members and their families.  Here is a link to get to this platform:

Band Website:

There will be a great deal of information to share with you through the course of the school year and much of the information can be found at our band website.  Here is the link to the site: https://sites.google.com/a/dcgschools.com/dcghsbands/

Performance T-Shirts and Shirts for Family Members:

This year's Marching Mustang shirt ORDER will be placed electronically through this Google Form. Due to how quickly we march this year - the first shirt order is due at the start of band camp.

PAYMENT can me made via Venmo (paying a friend - @KathieHicok), by dropping it off at Band Camp anytime in an envelope clearly marked with the name of the student, or mailed (Kathie Hicok, 709 Vine Street, Dallas Center, IA 50063).

If you need to make different payment arrangements, you can contact Kathie Hicok to do so.

You will total your order and enter it below, and then indicate your preferred payment method.

SHORT SLEEVE and HOODIES will be offered - adult sizes only S-3X.  2X and 3X have an additional cost. Prices are listed below with a t-shirt base of $15.  (The price is higher this year due to the style of the shirt - Crystal Tie Dye).

All students will need one short sleeve t-shirt, as it will be used as the uniform this year for the parade and potentially some football games.  If there is a financial hardship for the shirt - please contact Mr. Crilly confidentially and FOFA will ensure that all students are able to have one short sleeve t-shirt.

DRESS UP DAYS

To add  some more fun and humor to the days, we have dress up days.  The dress up days are completely voluntary, but we encourage all students to participate in the dress up days during camp if you can.  Prizes will be given each day for the best outfits.  The dress up days are as follows:

Monday, August 1 - Class Colors

     Seniors - tie dye

     Juniors - purple

     Sophomores - red

     Freshman - blue

     Staff - white

Tuesday, August 2 “Twin Tuesday”

Wednesday, August 3-”On Wednesdays We Wear Pink!”

Thursday, August 4 Country vs. Country Club

Friday, August 5 - Section Day (your section captain will let you know)

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us.

Sincerely,

Craig Crilly

Bonnie Ihde

Uniforms:

Each student will have a uniform fitted for them during band camp.

EVERY TIME your student wears their uniform (games and competitions)--

**They will need:  a t-shirt for under their uniform (NO tank tops – MUST have short sleeves), athletic shorts or leggings (NO cargo shorts), long black athletic socks, and black shoes.

**They will NOT wear jewelry (earrings, necklaces, bracelets, watches, etc.) – permanent ear jewelry will be covered.)

**Long hair will be up – bring hair ties, hair clips, hairnets, bobby pins, etc.  (Band Moms will help!)

**They will NOT wear nail polish. (Band Moms will have remover as necessary.)

Friday Night Games:

The band will march at Friday night home games.  Students will report to the band room at 5:30 to prepare for pregame.  During the first half the band will sit together in the stands. They will march at half-time.  Following half-time, the students will return to the band room to take care of their instrument and uniform.  They are free to go once these responsibilities are done.

9th grade football players /cross country/cheerleaders – be sure to have FOOD to eat between your sports and marching band!  Varsity football will make arrangements for their instruments and will march in football uniform.

Competitions:

The band will have several Saturday competitions.  Call time will be announced to the students. Students must ride the bus to/from competitions unless other arrangements are made with the band director.

Please be aware that some of these days are long days and the students will need money for food or pack meals.  Students may also want to bring a blanket, jacket, and extra clothing. Competitions do have an entry fee for all spectators.

We look forward to a WONDERFUL Marching Band Season and a great school year with your students!
