The scoop

Holiday sing-a-long

Members of the Dayton Community came in to play instruments and lead our students in a Christmas sing-a-long. This is an annual tradition the morning before Christmas break begins.

Thank you joe

One of our custodians was honored and thanked for all of his dedication and hard work keeping our school looking great. Joe is retiring and he will be missed.

The Power of yet

The Power of "Yet" has a big impact on the mindset of our students. Dayton is committed to helping students realize they can be very successful if they keep trying. By changing the mindset, students can be very successful, both academically and socially. This assembly taught students how to change their mindset and learn how to become proficient at a yo-yo.

Magic and science collide

Dayton Elementary was very lucky to receive a special guest on November 14th. Jeff Evans is a magician and a scientist. His unique way of combining magic tricks that can be explained by science was very appealing to students. Students were amazed at the magic tricks and then excited as he explained how the tricks worked. All his tricks were science in action!

Veterans Day

As we approach November 11, it is important to pause for a moment and reflect on how Veterans Day began. In 1938, President Wilson declared November 11 to be Armistice Day. A day in which America would honor those who served in the armed forces. In 1954, Armistice Day became Veterans Day. Instead of just honoring those who served during WWI, it was a day to honor all veterans.

Spiders, cobwebs & halloween

In commemoration of the spookiness of Halloween, students are researching spiders . For our 2nd graders, this was one of the first research projects they've ever done using digital tools. Spiders are important but creepy!

Acceptable Use Policy: The Acceptable Use Policy is the district's approved policy regarding the Google account your child has. This account belongs to the school. Any work done using the account is regulated by the district. Even if your student is using their computer at home. Students are being asked to read the policy, posted in their Google Classroom for grades 3-5. They are being asked if they understand what they are reading. I am attaching a copy of the policy for parents to refer to. If you have any questions, please contact me at hanneleef@daytonsd.org or 509-382-2507.

Welcome back to Dayton Elementary! It is exciting to see all of the students back. It was fun to watch them as they hugged each other and excitedly talked to each other about things that happened over the summer. Soon they will get back into the swing of things.
