Let's get moving, singing, chanting, and playing!

During the first few weeks of the year, we are busy learning routines, expectation, and how to music appropriately. In our classroom, we strive not to make noise, but to create as much of a musical sound as possible.

We music through singing, chanting, movement, and the performing of both pitched and non-pitched instruments. Ask your child what instrument they've been focusing on in class. Hint: It's from the string family!

First Grade Music Objectives:

    • Sing and chant a song or chant; individually.

    • Demonstrate whole body movement to the macrobeat of a given piece of music.

    • Use rhythmic syllables to echo a rhythmic pattern in Duple meter.

    • Use rhythmic syllables to echo a rhythmic pattern in Triple meter.

    • Improvise a tonal pattern in a given tonality.

    • Improvise a rhythm pattern in a given meter.

    • Aurally identify whether a pair of rhythm or tonal patterns are the same or if they are different.
