When your child is absent from school because of illness, or for any other reason, parents are required to call or email the nurse each day of their absence: 203-797-4739. If an absence of three or more days is anticipated, please notify the school nurse. If there will be prolonged absence for family vacation or other reasons, please inform the office as soon as possible.
If your child becomes sick at school, you or someone will have to pick them up within 15 minutes; please keep phone numbers and emergency contacts up to date. Please send your child to school in shoes designed for active wear as they walk up and down stairs throughout the day and weather permitting will be going outside for mask breaks. Sneakers are the best option. We discourage flip-flops, backless sandals and sandals with heels. The Hayestown staff is encouraging healthy snack choices. We strongly discourage soda and sugary snacks in school.
All staff and families will be requested to do a self monitoring screening and temperature check at home each morning before school. If your child has a temperature and/or flu like symptoms please keep them home and report any symptoms to the school nurse. Also, if anyone in your home is sick, please check with the school nurse before sending your child to school. Due to the pandemic, all students must wear a mask to school. Mask breaks will be built into the school day.

We offer all students, staff and families an opportunity to purchase school spirit wear a few times per year. These items are available online, purchased directly through the vendor. For the fall, the store is open from August 13, 2024 until September 28, 2024. After the online store closes, orders will be sent home (by ordering you are agreeing to have your items sent home with your child) once they arrive, approximately 4 weeks after the sales ends.
