Reading Curriculum: Units of Study
(In our Reading workshop, students learn important reading strategies within a mini-lesson. Students then practice and apply these strategies in small groups, in reading partners, and by reading individually. Teachers lead small groups and confer with individual students)
Unit 1: 2nd Grade Reading Growth Spurt
Unit 2: Becoming Experts
Unit 3: Bigger Books Mean Amping Up Reading Power
Unit 4: Series Book Clubs
Throughout reading, we continually practice our comprehension, fluency, and sight word automaticity. Since recognizing sight words quickly contributes greatly to fluency, it is extremely important to regularly practice those important words.
