Writing Curriculum: Units of Study
In our Writing workshop, students learn important strategies within a mini-lesson. These strategies might include:
-Ideas - the content or main theme in a piece
-Organization - how meaning is structured in a piece
-Voice - how the writer's personal town comes across
-Word Choice - the vocabulary the writer chooses to convey meaning
-Sentence Fluency - the rhythm, flow, and sound of the language
-Conventions - spelling, grammar, usage, capitalization, and punctuation
-Presentation - how the piece looks on the page
Students then practice and apply these strategies within their writing. Students receive and apply feedback from individual conferences, writing partners, and small groups. Writing is "published" and celebrated.
