counseling Groups

Emerson Middle School offers a variety of small counseling groups for young people based on student need and scheduling. Groups generally run for 40 minutes once a week during the school day. Small groups provide a safe, supportive environment for students to share, process, and give feedback around social skills, school stresses, and life difficulties with peers and caring adults. As with other counseling services, confidentiality is expected from group members and counselors. Students also understand that they are responsible for "checking in" with their teacher prior to group and making up any missed classwork.

Students may refer themselves by talking with their grade-level social worker/counselor. Students are encouraged to discuss groups with their parent(s); parental consent will be required for ongoing participation.
