Jr./Sr. English/Reading

This class is designed to allow students to practice a variety of reading and writing skills based on their individual levels and goals.


A variety of researched based material will be used in these classes. Some students will practice reading functional words used around the school and community as a whole and may use sight word reading approaches to broaden their word repertoire. When appropriate, phonetic approaches to reading will be practiced as well. This class may include the use of classic works of literature adapted to individual reading levels. Students will be encouraged to read for enjoyment with books from the school and community libraries, audio books, and magazines. The student may participate in the creation of books with high interest pictures and vocabulary about things that relate to their own lives.


For the written component of this class students will practice a variety of writing skills such as those listed below. Again, all students will work at their individual level.
